DIG YOUR OWN CRYSTALS
Quartz is the predominant mineral in the earth’s surface layers. It is found in every part of the world with significantly large deposits in Brazil, Madagascar and the United States.
There are many different varieties of quartz. Macrocrystalline (crystalline) examples include clear crystal, citrine and amethyst. Microcrystalline (dense) types include jaspers, agates and carnelian.
The largest singular deposit of quartz is a network of inter-connected crystal veins, located in the Ouachita Mountains in the states of Arkansas and Oklahoma (USA). Here, crystals of particularly fine quality are recovered and sought after by collectors from all over the world.
There are several mines in Western Arkansas where you can dig for your very own Clear Quartz Crystals. For a certain daily fee, you get to dig in the actual mine pit or in the mine tailings piles and keep whatever you find.
